Our story

On the initiative of Philippe Miserez, Gérald Langel, and Robert Martinolli, the Cenas sleep medicine center was founded in December 1989 in Vandoeuvres, becoming Geneva’s first sleep recording center equipped with the first modern polysomnography investigation system.

In the mid-1990s, Cenas set up a rental service for positive pressure devices for the treatment of sleep apnea in order to offer a complete analysis and treatment solution for patients. It also gradually built up a network of specialist partner doctors.

Since 2001, all sleep medicine centers have been required to obtain accreditation. This new legislation has brought real legitimacy to sleep medicine.

From 2010 onwards, everything accelerated. Cenas opened a consultation center in Les Acacias and expanded its comprehensive medical services, from diagnosis and analysis to investigation and therapeutic treatment. Then, in 2014, a Cenas branch was established at La Tour Hospital.

In 2017, the Cenas teams created Swiss Sleep Day, in conjunction with International Sleep Day – a real opportunity to shine a light on sleep disorders. This is an annual event featuring medical conferences and awareness-raising activities for the general public.

In 2020, with an ever-growing desire to develop sleep medicine in Geneva, Cenas created a brand new 700m² center in Chêne-Bourg, with greater capacity (4 rooms and 1 suite) and state-of-the-art equipment.

In 2025, Cenas is starting a new chapter with the opening of its second sleep center in Bulle, thirty-five years after the creation of its historic center in Geneva.

Located in the heart of Migros Gruyère Centre, this new site reinforces Cenas’ commitment to providing specialized, humane, and accessible sleep medicine.

Designed in line with the Geneva model, the Bulle center offers comprehensive care for sleep disorders in a modern and soothing environment. It has five consultation rooms, three examination rooms, a state-of-the-art sleep laboratory, and a space dedicated to CBT-I.

This development responds to a clear need: to bring sleep expertise closer to the people of the canton of Fribourg, while maintaining the medical excellence and kindness that have been Cenas’ reputation since 1989.

Beyond the opening of a new center, Cenas is affirming its vision of innovative, human-centered sleep medicine, with the ambition of making sleep a public health priority.
